Play Resource will deliver a programme of events and creative activities for older people which hopes to reignite the participants appreciation for their local library and the role is plays as a social hub in local communities. By hosting the event, Cregagh Library hopes to demonstrate the broad range of services it offers in a safe and shared place.
This touring exhibition features the recently digitised collection of letters written by staff of Belfast Public Libraries who were enlisted during the First World War. The exhibition marks the contribution and sacrifices that the library men made during the war and, through supporting online resources, encourages visitors to learn more about this significant time in our shared history. The events will stimulate dialogue and celebrate all aspects of our culture and heritage through photo exhibitions, workshops and other community events.
An intergenerational event to encourage shared skills and learning. Young people will learn how to knit or crotchet while teaching older people all about the digital world. The event hopes to promote social inclusion within a shared community and it is hoped that in sharing skills, participants will form friendships. Remembering Srebrenica Northern Ireland wants to build on its events this year and plan to take forward inter faith activities for victims, including memorial services, walks and activities promoting peace and understanding.
The group will be made up of a broad range of young people who come from varying political, racial and social backgrounds. The group will hope to learn more about each other's identity and dispel myths about minority groups. This will be an opportunity for Turas staff to meet with residents of the Short Strand and to encourage them to come along to programmes in the Skainos Centre.
The Asylum and Refugee Awareness session is an interactive workshop which offers an introduction to asylum and refugee issues in Northern Ireland. The sessions have a particular focus on the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Relocation scheme and give staff the opportunity to learn more about issues experienced by refugees and asylum seekers to enable empathy and understanding as well as providing relevant needs-based services.
The exhibition explores how working and family life was impacted by the conflict and also charts the peace process in the s. Community groups and schools from across Northern Ireland were interviewed as part of the project and explored topics including The Good Friday Agreement and subsequent referendum. These interviews provide valuable insights into people who witnessed these events first hand, allowing visitors to experience a side of the story they may not have heard before.

Pilot project in which women explored the history, international use and personal experiences of bonfires. The groups will now present their learnings and share recommendations as to how bonfires and associated events can become more culturally inclusive celebrations in Northern Ireland. Interactive storytelling event told through English and Irish which incorporates music and theatre for a storytelling session children will love. Invited primary school children will be given the chance to experience the Irish language in a safe and shared place.
Reading group activity aimed at year olds which encourages children to think about what it is like to live in a different country. Children will produce welcome messages for refugees coming to Northern Ireland which will be displayed in the library, which is a safe and shared place for everyone. The campaign hopes to promote a shared future and encourage peace building and relationship building with the most marginalised and vulnerable in society. Neighbourhood clean-up to create a shared space where the ethically and religiously diverse residents in the Holyland area of South Belfast can meet and socialise.
The space will offer residents the opportunity to share stories, music and meals and the chance to take joint ownership of the forgotten historic area and adjacent green. A series of small group discussions to discuss ongoing obstacles to building a united community. The discussions will be based on issues arising from the Galvanising the Peace consultations and report which was carried out between and and involved community groups, community practitioners and wider society.
Community Dialogue, TIDES Training and Trust are now organising a follow-up dialogue event to explore effective responses to some of the issues raised in the report. Those who attend the event will be encouraged to contribute their own personal experiences of the Troubles and how this influenced their lives, right to the present day. This questioning and challenging documentary examines the educational attainment of children whose native language is not English and how this can act as a barrier to educational success.

The rooted ideology behind the parades is a critique of space which has been produced to seem heteronormative and 'straight', and therefore any act appearing to be homosexual is considered dissident by society. The Parade brings this queer culture into the space. The marches spread internationally, including to London where the first "gay pride rally" took place on 1 July , the date chosen deliberately to mark the three-year anniversary of the Stonewall riots.
In the s, there was a cultural shift in the gay movement. Activists of a less radical nature began taking over the march committees in different cities, [35] and they dropped "Gay Liberation" and "Gay Freedom" from the names, replacing them with "Gay Pride". Many parades still have at least some of the original political or activist character, especially in less accepting settings.
The variation is largely dependent upon the political, economic, and religious settings of the area. However, in more accepting cities, the parades take on a festive or even Mardi Gras -like character, whereby the political stage is built on notions of celebration.
Large parades often involve floats, dancers, drag queens and amplified music; but even such celebratory parades usually include political and educational contingents, such as local politicians and marching groups from LGBT institutions of various kinds. Some particularly important pride parades are funded by governments and corporate sponsors and promoted as major tourist attractions for the cities that host them. In some countries, some pride parades are now also called Pride Festivals. Some of these festivals provide a carnival-like atmosphere in a nearby park or city-provided closed-off street, with information booths, music concerts, barbecues, beer stands, contests, sports, and games.
The 'dividing line' between onlookers and those marching in the parade can be hard to establish in some events, however, in cases where the event is received with hostility, such a separation becomes very obvious. There have been studies considering how the relationship between participants and onlookers is affected by the divide, and how space is used to critique the heteronormative nature of society.
Though the reality was that the Stonewall riots themselves, as well as the immediate and the ongoing political organizing that occurred following them, were events fully participated in by lesbian women, bisexual people, and transgender people, as well as by gay men of all races and backgrounds, historically these events were first named Gay , the word at that time being used in a more generic sense to cover the entire spectrum of what is now variously called the 'queer' or LGBT community.

The language has become more accurate and inclusive, though these changes met with initial resistance from some in their own communities who were unaware of the historical events.
